SILENT PEACE
I was called up to fight in the world war,
In order to load guns and let them fly,
I remember the sound of battles roar,
We never sensed danger but heard men’s cry.
Sometimes we were struck by enemy fire,
I just did my job and loaded our shells.
The stress of battle would cause me to tire,
The constant noise would leave me hearing bells.
One day I woke and the World went silent,
But I could still hear those bells a ringing.
I found myself faced with a new torment,
The noise of battle destroyed my hearing.
I was sent home from the war, to my wife,
I will be deaf, for the rest of my life.
